Has anyone had a broken collar bone?

My boyfriend broke his collar bone Thursday night. A piece of the bone completely broke off and is sitting in between the other two pieces (if that makes sense).

He was given an arm sling and sent home. It's been in the obvious pain but last night he woke up in a lot more pain than usual. He says it feels really tight and extremely uncomfortable. Do you think it was how he slept? If so, how are you supposed to sleep with a broken collar bone...proped up, support under shoulder?!?

I also gave him a massage last night and was wondering if that was a bad idea. He was in a motorcycle accident so his entire back is really tense.

Is this just part of the healing process or should we go back to see the doctor (we don't have insurance)? He feels like it needs to be popped back into place...

What kind of pain did you experience with your break?

Thanx for your help.

there's not much he can have done for that injury. it hurts like crazy for a few weeks and then will get better. he can think of it as a life lesson.
Reply:It is realy easy to break your coller bone it only takes 15 lbs of pressure. if he feels like it needs to be put back into place it probobly does. bones need to be re set so that they can heal right and he might accure permanent damage if he doesnt go which will cost alot more in the long run if hes unable to work.
Reply:You want to move the shoulder as little as possible. He probably slept on it wrong. The Dr. can't really do anything for him, so in my opinion you should just save your money unless these tips don't help and he really can't stand it.

Try these tips from Webmd:

he most important treatment is to relieve pain.

* To this end, the arm should be moved as little as possible. An ice pack wrapped in a towel should be applied directly to the broken collarbone. Aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), and acetaminophen (Tylenol) are effective over-the-counter pain relievers.
