For months this 22 year old punk a$$ female has been harassing me and my family. Shes threatened me. Threatened my family. Tried to start a fight with me while i was holding my lil sister in my arms she has left threatening messages in front of my house she has stole balls popped pools stole my dogs collar, just about ne crazy ridiculous thing you can think of shes done. And now the worst she has smashed in the front of my car. How could i get this to stop? What legal action can be made?
How Do you take legal action against someone that's harassing you?
First, get a pocket tape recorder. Get her recorded saying threatning things to you. If you can get any other evidence that is even better. Make copies of your evidence and keep it locked up. Take a copy to your local police station and file a report. If the cops don't do anything, then go to the Sheriff's office and file a report, then go to the D.A. DONT LET THIS WOMAN RUN YOU OUT. DON'T LET HER WIN.A restaing order will not do you much good with the law enforcement. All they will do is talk to her and tell her not to do it again. This is from experience.
Criminal Justice Major...
Reply:Call the police and file a complaint against her. They will advise you from there.

Reply:Geez... Call the cops and then move out. You'll have a struggle with that woman until you can prove everything she does to you!
Reply:...and you're going to need to have proof that she did it, photos, messages (threatening), etc.
Good luck...but you might think about it and really feel sorry for her. She must be really miserable to act out like that, and she evidently feels that making you feel worse will make her feel better.
For physical damage, yes I would pursue action, otherwise just feel sorry for her, really. And don't engage her when she wants to fight and argue...be the better person. It may not feel great walking away, but if things go from bad to worse and it escalates, you may regret it later...
Reply:1. Make police report for each and every incident.
2. Ask police / DA for a restraining order to keep this woman away from you and your family, your home, work place etc. Know full well that it probably will not be enforced, but in later police reports also include that this is also in violation of the restraining order.
3. If you get the restraining order, phone the police every time you catch her in violation %26amp; sometimes they will come out and arrest her.
4. Tell your insurance company the identity of the person who did the damage. Your insurance company will try to find what her insurance company is %26amp; go after them for the cost of repair, which will raise her insurance rates ... this is home/renter insurance or auto insurance or whatever was attacked or damaged.
5. Contact private lawyer or legal aid ... see about a civil law suit against the woman.
You need to gather evidence that this is happening, otherwise it is just your word against hers.
Get cameras, have with you in car, home, work, person.
Every time you see her, photograph.
Ideally you want also to get where was this, what time was this.
Some cameras come with digital info that is helpful.
If not, mix on roll of film a street sign, or something that shwos geography, or you could have a note pad with info written on it ... date time location %26amp; nature of incident ... so you have roll of film where photos alternate, here she is doing something, and here in your diary is when it happened
Remember that it is not illegal to take people photos without their permission, but there are legal limits to how those photos may be used, without permission of person in the photo ... make sure you do not violate those rules.

My arm is falling off!! Help?
I am sure I have seperated my shoulder, however, I still have two weeks of rugby (three playoff games) to play, but my shoulder is getting more painful. I also need to know, is it better to put a hot water bottle on my shoulder OR, to ice it?Also, am I risking a huge injury if I keep going with an injury? (it cracks and I can wiggle my collar bone around ("pop" it out if you will). And, my last inquiry, what kind of rehab will my seperated shoulder need? (cast, surgery, physio?) Anything will help. Thanks.
My arm is falling off!! Help?
Try going to an orthopedist. He may prescribe a antiinflammatory. Or you may need surgery. He will tell you if it is safe to continue playing. I would say ice is better for a new injury.
Reply:Surgery then lots of therapy. Get to the dr. and he/she will tell you what you need to do.
Reply:Sop playing. I hurt my shoulder last February and am still doing physical therapy. I will have pain there the rest of my life.

I am addicted to popping/cracking my joints constantly...how do I stop??
I crack/pop my knuckles, jaw, collar-bone, hips, arms, neck, toes, and feet as much as possible. It annoys my husband and must annoy my friends/co-workers etc. Why am I so addicted? How do I stop? PS- Please spare me the lecture on it causing arthrities because I am a medical student and know that is not true.

I have that habit too, and you don't realize it till you're with a crowd, lost in your thoughts and start cracking away. The best is when you use your neck muscles to swing and crack your neck and everyone just stares at you. Or when you open your hand as if to motion "5" then slowly and deliberately crack each finger on the way down to your palm, ending in a fist.
The best way is to excuse yourself briefly, bathroom, kitchen and so forth. The way i figure its as if the most active people need to crack their joints. So be proud!!
Reply:when you break one you'll stop
Reply:Have you tried wearing mittens or something? the embarassment alone should make you stop.
PS Rememeber this when you are qualified, and one of your patients says "I've tried to stop but...."
Reply:Well what i did (i used to crack my knuckles) was every time i felt like cracking them i would just squeeze my palms for 5-10 seconds and let it go and relax. It doesn't work for everyone though...

Do you agree with my answer in this post?
Why is it that most people don't understand that negative reinforcement doesn't always mean hitting your dog?
It can mean teaching your dog that if he doesn't pay attention to you, he will get a pop on the collar with a choke chain.
It doesn't hurt your dog, it just redirects his mind. it's the equivalent me tapping a person on the shoulder to get their attention.

Reply:Yes, I do agree with you. I do not agree with physical punishment (hitting the dog). Anger begets anger.
Reply:That's a good point.
Without going to your link tho I think most people think negative re-inforcement just naturally equals abusive treatment to the dog.
Reply:I'm a balanced trainer. This means that I train using positive methods until the dog understands the behavior. I then use negative reinforcement to remind him that I know that he can do the behavior and he MUST do the behavior whether I have a cookie in my hand or not. These are life issues. I don't want my dogs to think that they have a CHOICE to not come to me when I call them as that can get them dead. I use the NILIF program in my training classes and with clients. When I'm in the park training my dogs, I have an audience. People wish that their dog will behave that good. Some will tell me how nasty I am because I told the dog "NO". When I ask them if they have a dog, they reply that their dog is at home because they can't make him behave in public. Sorry cookies are a good way to start dogs and pups in training but to have a well trained dog there needs to be some consequences for not doing the behavior besides withholding the treat. I read your answer and it is similar to one that I would give. Some people have no idea...
Reply:One of the reasons that I have never liked the terms positive and negative reinforcement. The terms simply paint an improper mental image, and in no way describe the actions of positive and negative reinforcement. There are four courses of action, not just two.
There is an art to understanding when each of the four would be the proper course of action, and quite honestly very few will master that art. That is why we see so many using one or the other but not all.
If you participate in one of the dog sports that requires intense upper level training, you will quickly learn that there are a few that win time after time regardless of what dog they have. There is a simple explanation for this, they can READ their dog better than the rest of us can, so are able to use all four effectively.
Reply:Sorry, but I think you misunderstand the concept of negative reinforcement, and are mistaking it for punishment. Reinforcement is the process whereby a behavior is strengthened. Punishment is the process whereby a behavior is suppressed or weakened. Positive refers to something being added to the situation, and negative to something being taken away. Positive reinforcement is where something good is added to the situation, such as a treat. Negative reinforcement is where something unpleasant is removed from the situation, such as if the dog is forging on lead, the pressure on its neck is supposedly unpleasant. When it gets back into position, the pressure goes away, and reinforces walking at heel.
Positive punishment is when something unpleasant happens as a result of the behavior. So when you pop the dog on the nose, that is a positive punishment, as is a yank on the chain. Negative punishment is the removal of something good, such as turning your back on the dog when it jumps up on you.
To reiterate:
Reinforcement, by definition, ALWAYS strengthens a behavior. Positive by something rewarding being delivered, negative by something aversive being removed.
Punishment, by definition, ALWAYS reduces or inhibits a behavior. Positive punishment by something aversive being delivered, negative by something rewarding being removed.
The effect of a supposed reinforcer or punisher always has to be judged in terms of its effect on the behavior, not in terms of what you think it should be doing. If the behavior is not increasing, it's not being reinforced. If it's not stopping, it's not being punished, or at best, non-reinforced.
The concept of negative reinforcement is typically confused with punishment, but they are entirely different things.
Edit: These are sometimes referred to as R+, R-, P+ and P-. Each has its role in training.
